Proverbs 22:6 “Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it.”
This week my eldest son graduates from high school, and it is a new phase for me in my life as well. He is off to university this fall many miles away from us. That was hard to hear at first when he decided to choose a place so far away. I got adjusted to this choice after sometime and was excited he was going to pursue an education. Just a few weeks ago he tells us he is going to Brazil for three weeks over the summer to meet his girlfriend of two years now. My first reaction was anger followed by more anger. My son has never flown on a plane, let alone go all alone to Brazil. He had told me he had planned everything and was quite confident he would be safe and knows what he is doing. I learned through this that I once again have to Let Go and trust God and believe that my son will make positive choices. We raised him with good morals and I pray for my boys’ everyday. In the past couple weeks I have allowed God to be in control of this decision, my worrying will not change the circumstances or outcome. I had to believe in the verse I had written above from Proverbs, which kept echoing in my mind as I wrote this posting.
Please watch over our children as they grow up and become adults. Even though they don’t need us to physically take care of them we still grieve that little boy we took care of. I pray as they make choices in life that they will remember their faith and continue to seek you in their lives. Amen.
