Forget About the Past

Philippians 3:13-14 “Brethren, I do not consider that I have made it my own; but one thing I do, forgetting what lies behind and straining forward to what lies ahead, I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.”

Have you dealt with the hurts of your past and still find at times they can surface? Things you made peace with that still come to the surface when you least expect it and you are surprised at your reaction? Are you running off of your feelings?

Personally I had this happen lately, I had something come up that caused my emotions to be stirred. I know I made peace and had let go of this surprise emotion a long time ago so why was it back to prod me?

Perhaps it is a test in faith, to see if my eyes are truly on Jesus. The point is we can either let the negative emotions we have from a hurt festure in us or we can let go and make the decision to leave the past in the past. We need to reflect more on Jesus and his love for us and less on our own pain. There is a time and place to look at the past but when you know you released that pain and were healed don’t allow unexpected emotions to cause doubt in your heart. We also need to be aware that there is evil and that we need protection from the lies of the enemy. Keep your eyes on Jesus and trust in the good things he has already done in your life and will continue to do for those he loves.

Dear Jesus,   Thank you for loving us and watching over us. I pray for all who are hurting and in need of healing that they will keep their eyes on you and trust in your mercy. That they will believe what you have done for them to be true and not doubt your love for them. Amen.
